Why Choose a Birth Center?
A Birth Center is people working together to respond to your needs during pregnancy, birth and early parenting. It is a team of highly qualified professionals providing more personal care, from midwifery to nutrition, from childbirth to pediatrics.
A Birth Center is a program that gives you the confidence in your ability to give birth, balancing human touch and technology. It is program of education for pregnancy, birth, labor support, baby care, nutrition, breastfeeding, and ongoing women's health care.
And above all a Birth Center program gives you the time that you deserve, time to listen to and answer your questions, and time to provide you with gentle care... time to stay with you throughout your labor and birth... time to help you, your new baby, and your family to get off to the best possible start.
The Midwifery Difference
A 1998 study of 800,000 low-risk pregnant women by the Centers for Disease Control compared the outcomes of those cared for by midwives versus those receiving traditional obstetrical care. The results are astounding!
The infant mortality rate was 19% lower, the neonatal mortality rate was 33% lower, and the rate of low birth-weight was 31% lower for patients under the care of a midwife versus an obstetrician.
Researchers attributed the differences in outcome to more one-on-one time spent with patients and fewer interventions in prenatal care, labor, and birth.
In addition, the cesarean section rate for mothers birthing with midwives averages 10%. That's half the national average!
